A look at Bayou & Bottle, Houston’s newest whiskey bar at the Four Seasons Houston

Boasting a huge selection of whiskey, comfy leather sofas and the world’s first Topgolf simulator, Bayou & Bottle, located in the hall of Four Seasons Houston, is not a normal hotel bar. We were invited to tour the venue and sample food and drink at a media preview night earlier this week.

The beautifully designed bar immediately catches the eye. Bright lobby lighting guides the way to the immaculately accented lounge where guests can take a seat in “Houston’s longest bar,” sit at a table, or blend in on one of the many leather sofas. Regardless of the seating choice, you’ll be surrounded by rich parquet floors and wooden walls, with sweeping views of the marble bar and accent wall.

Bayou & Bottle is home to over 100 bourbons and whiskeys, with a drink list that will delight any artisan cocktail lover. The flagships were the Southside Mule – made with Koval bourbon – and the Black Betty, a house variant of an Old Fashioned made with Jim Beam Bonded bourbon. Don’t pass up the Old Fashioned classic, however. It’s made with Bulleit bourbon and served in a retro Houston Oilers lowball glass.

The Huntsman, Bayou & Bottle’s signature cocktail, is certainly one of the most complex and impressive offerings. Composed of scotch mixed with monkey shoulder, Italian vermouth and apricot brandy, the cocktail is finished at the table with a dose of Rooibos tea smoke that lingers until the last sip. Groups of six or more should check out the full-size cocktails served in decanters.

Craft cocktails like these take a bit of time. Hurry? Then aim for the beer list that exclusively features handcrafted Houston selections on tap, as well as imported bottle offerings, such as Unibroue’s “La Fin Du Monde” for $ 7.

Regulars (well-heeled) might be interested in the Bourbon Baron program. Those who have tried each whiskey behind the bar receive their own premium bottles which are stored in the beautiful, personalized racks on site. It will be available to you and any other person you designate. This achievement comes with membership in the Bayou Reserve Club, with perks such as invitations to tastings and bar discounts.

Dining options are available from lunch with bar snacks, small plates, salads, and full meals for lunch or dinner. Indulge in Gilbert’s pork rinds, gently kissed with hot sauce and lime for a tasty snack that hurts to feel so good. The bone marrow, oxtail and toast platter is packed with tasty bites and is a fantastic option to share. Roasted oysters are a great choice as a light snack.

Eliminate some of those calories by reserving one of the two bays of the Topgolf Swing Suite, the first of its kind in the world. Each bay has a state-of-the-art projector that displays a Topgolf course on a large screen. Clubs are included for right-handed and left-handed players and there is also a full restaurant and bar service in the bays. Each can accommodate up to eight people and can be separated by a velvet curtain. Berries can be booked by the half hour for $ 30.

A stable crowd is expected during the Super Bowl festivities in Houston, but the venue is open to the public with no cover charges.
