Bar legend Chris Patino collaborates on a new whiskey bottle cocktail

LiveWire Drinks recently announced the launch of its first bottled cocktail with famous bar industry icon Chris Patino, the Alley Cat Old Fashioned. The drink is made with two-year-old straight rye whiskey and apple brandy from Ventura Spirits, balanced with Bittercube cherry bark vanilla bitters.

“There are few drinks in life better than a good old game,” Patino said in a prepared statement. “It’s a drink that stands the test of time, and I’m excited to make one with LiveWire using the finest ingredients that can be enjoyed anytime.”

It was created by best friends Aaron Polsky, founder of LiveWire, and Chris during Chris’ battle with pancreatic cancer. Patino is a spirits educator, brand consultant, former award-winning ambassador for Pernod-Ricard, and co-owner of famed cocktail bar Raised by Wolves in San Diego.

“Chris is an unsung hero in the world of craft cocktails,” Polsky said. “He has done so much to showcase the work of others and give back to the industry. I can’t wait to see the bartender’s bartender spend his time in the spotlight.”

LiveWire, according to the company, works with leading bartenders to develop ready-to-drink versions of their signature cocktails, as well as the art on its packaging. The system operates like a record label, where bartenders are compensated for their intellectual properties with royalties on every sale. So far, LiveWire has created cocktails with Joey Bernardo, Erin Hayes and Aaron Polsky.

The Alley Cat Old Fashioned is noted by the brand as having warm, toasty and woody notes with an orchard top note. Pop n’ pour old fashioned is drier than today’s sweeter drink styles and is ready to drink straight from the bottle. It features artwork donated by illustrator Mark Reihill, a friend of Patino’s who has created menus for him in the past.

The cocktail contains 39% alcohol by volume and is available in 375ml bottles at retailers in New York, New Jersey, Texas and California. It’s also available online with shipping to 46 states.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Alley Cat Old Fashioned will be donated to charity to help fight pancreatic cancer.
