Borderlands x Ballantine’s Bar Edition celebrates blending whiskey and gaming

Ballantine’s Scotch recently teamed up with the Borderlands video game to serve up side missions for the whiskey community, which includes releasing a limited-edition bottle and offering exclusive access to Borderlands 3 content.

Mad Moxxi, the fictional bar mogul from Borderlands, has been “appointed” to the position of Director of Galactic Expansion (CGEO) to help launch Ballantine’s Scotch into the gaming sphere. A statement from the joint operation says that during Moxxi’s initial four-phase contract, she will be tasked with expanding Ballantine’s “intergalactic footprint to the far reaches of Pandora, the universe, and beyond.”

In keeping with the Borderlands theme, the joint statement explained that Moxxi’s role as CGEO will see her bring together existing vault hunters and new raiders from across the galaxy, serving a series of missions and dropping her own loot into limited edition.

To launch this partnership, the new Ballantine’s X Moxxi’s Bar Edition. And just like Moxxi’s bar in the game, it’s first come, first served. Moxxi will also be sharing her loot with close friends and fans via her social media channels on LinkedIn and Twitter. Those who get a bottle will get access to exclusive Borderlands 3 content.

The distiller’s notes show that Bar Edition Scotch is light gold in color, with sweet aromas of heather honey and a hint of spice on the nose. It has subtle, sweet flavors like milk chocolate, red apple, and vanilla. The whiskey finishes with a fresh, floral aftertaste that creates a rounded glow.

In the coming months, Pandora’s favorite bartender will also be tasked with recruiting his own team of Vault Hunters to help spread the word, spread their adventures, hand out exclusive goodies and share the latest Mad Moxxi scoops. There may also be Moxxi appearances at bars beyond her usual territory..

Moxxi will report directly to Ballantine’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mathieu Deslandes.

“We’ve been following Moxxi’s adventures in Pandora for some time now and are thrilled to have such an infamous entrepreneur on board,” Deslandes said. “His handling of the Heist of the Handsome Jackpot was second to none and his impressive hostess of the Underdome Riot is not easily forgotten. I have no doubt that Moxxi will help catapult Ballantine’s to galactic heights and encourage Vault Hunters to stay true to themselves.

Moxxi’s appointment is the first step in a long-term partnership between Ballantine’s and the Borderlands franchise, and more announcements will be announced throughout 2022. You can find out more at Moxxi’s channels as well as at www. ballantines.com.
