Midtown Community Smith’s ‘modern meat’ on West Peachtree, part of the Renaissance Hotel, is now called Rowdy Tiger Whiskey Bar and Kitchen. Community Smith closed in May in order to redesign the restaurant space and reconfigure the menu, a hotel representative told Eater Atlanta.
Rowdy Tiger and its adjoining rooftop bar, modeled after Atlanta’s Prohibition-era underground bars called ‘Blind Tigers’, opened for ‘South American comfort foods’ on June 8 with over 100 whiskeys and over 50 moonshine behind the bar.
Executive Chef Christina “Chris” Wai (Takorea) ‘s menu includes small platters like a caprese salad of fried green tomatoes and pricey entrees (even for the city center) like a heirloom pork loin chop in brine. $ 32 tea with Logan Turnpike oatmeal and Lowcountry cioppino (fish stew) consisting of sea bass, shrimp, smoked sausage and red potatoes for $ 36. It is accompanied by toasted bread with butter. There’s a more reasonably priced bourbon bacon cheeseburger on a brioche for $ 16 and croissant bread pudding drizzled with bourbon caramel for dessert.
Upstairs at Rowdy Tiger Rooftop, the bar serves ‘Prohibition Era’ cocktails and more whiskey, snacks from the restaurant menu, and offers lawn games.
