Dirty Girl Donuts opens on Broadway

Dirty Girl Donuts found a home in what was once the Subway sandwich shop at 927 Broadway.

“Dirty Girl” Marisa Wondolleck, who moved here from Cobb to Lake County, says she creates “everything you ever wanted in donut form”.

She makes all kinds of sweet donuts ranging from maple frosting topped with pieces of fruit bacon and all kinds of candy toppings. Wondolleck has been making her donuts at Ramekins since the original location she planned to occupy, at Eighth Street East and Napa Road, never came to fruition.

She then attempted to open a store in Massage Envy’s former location at 452 First St. E., which did not work for lack of a permit. Since closing, she has been selling her donuts on weekends at Sonoma’s Best Deli on East Napa Street, as the donut shop, according to its website, is part of Sonoma’s Best Hospitality Group.

Sonoma’s best hotel group bought the Subway store over two years ago from Maria Lounibos around the same time it bought the building next door, which once housed CocoaPlanet chocolates.

Noodlespring closes for the season

Now that it’s almost March and seeing some sunshine, Noodlespring has closed for the season.

It all started with the idea of ​​Girl & the Fig owners Sondra Bernstein and John Toulze to host Ramen Nights Wednesdays in their Suite D. There they offered delicious ramen with small pickled cucumber salads and extras available, as well as the occasional try of dishes like sticky baby back ribs.

At the time, no other restaurant served ramen, and the closest offering was wonton soup in Chinese restaurants.

After the pandemic first caused closures, including Suite D gatherings, and then allowed take-out food, they opened their take-out side door on the Spain Street side of Girl & the Fig. That idea worked well, so they added Noodlespring ramen, finger-licking chops, and many more choices. Noodlespring was originally slated to be part of the container project developer envisioned by Ken Mattson at Boyes Hot Springs, which appears to be in limbo.

The only problem with the Noodlespring ramen was that you had to heat up and add the noodles at home so it didn’t work to go to plaza park as you could have a burger with french fries.

Now that the Girl & the Fig and Fig Café & Wine Bar in Glen Ellen have reopened for alfresco dining and take out, also let’s hope that one day ramen fans can meet again one evening a week at the Suite D.

In the meantime, other Sonoma restaurants have started serving ramen, including Pho Ha, Oso, Reel & Brand when it’s open and Epicurean Connection when it’s on the menu.

Sonoma Overnight Support and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley are the lucky recipients of 800 meals each from Elaine Bell Catering.

How did it happen?

Like many caterers, Elaine Bell has seen several wedding catering jobs canceled due to COVID-19 and pandemic rules against large gatherings, which has been devastating for caterers, wineries and the staff who cook and serve. these events and crowds.

Elaine Bell actually had a couple, who would rather remain anonymous, called off their wedding and, instead of asking for a refund, asked Bell to use the money to feed the hungry. So she called some friends and, with the couple’s approval, opted for SOS and the Boys & Girls Clubs.

Bell has had a long and generous relationship with the Boys and Girls Clubs and it seemed logical. In fact, she’s hosted the annual Lovers’ Gala for years, including a delicious boxed meal for the sponsors this year.

SOS is very grateful to receive their 800 meals over the next few weeks as they are already serving up to 200 breakfasts and lunches on weekdays to the homeless and simply starving neighbors of Springs Community Hall, and they can use the entire area. help they can get. .

It all starts today, February 26, when Elaine Bell delivers 400 meal kits to the Boys & Girls Club in Sonoma, followed by another 400 meal kits on Friday, March 3.

This week’s menu will include beef pasta Bolognese with Parmesan; grissini bread sticks; and black bean, corn and green pea salad with assorted buns, fresh fruit, pretzel bites with mustard sauce and assorted cookies.

On March 3 and 4, Sonoma Overnight Support will receive waffles and ham to complement its breakfast and lunch service to serve at least 140 guests per day. The association will receive three additional days of lunches for clients.

These menus are not yet determined but will include items such as empanadas, tamales, sausage and spinach stuffed pasta shells, meat and bean chili, potatoes, vegetable salads, fresh fruit, bread, snacks and desserts. Good, healthy food.
