“Gravity” Bong Maker Stündenglass enters cocktail smoke infusion

Stündenglass describes itself as a “glass gravity infuser” with some rather unique design and usability considerations. Despite this labeling, it was seen in some corners as a “gravity bong”, getting a particular shoutout a few years ago from Seth Rogen in a video showing him smoking. Now, the company behind it has announced a new cocktail smoking supplement known as the Gravity Beverage Infuser.

The Stündenglass Gravity drink infuser, according to its authors, uses a high-quality glass bell jar and extra-fine wood chips to infuse chilled smoke into cocktails. Featuring what is described as “a patented 360 degree gravity system”, one places drinks under the bell jar and fills the chamber of the Stündenglass with wood chips, spices or herbs. The material is then ignited and the top globe rotated to begin shooting smoke into the Stündenglass. It is swirled again and fresh, water-filtered smoke fills the bell jar, adding what is said to be depth of flavor to the drinks.

“We are thrilled to introduce our esteemed line of infusers to the mixology world,” said Chris Fokertrs, CEO of Stündenglass, in a prepared statement. “The beverage infuser is a game-changing addition for any enthusiast, providing a superior on-demand experience at your home or local bar.”

Here are some more official details about the Stündenglass Infuser:

  • Industrial grade, food safe material
  • Aircraft grade, anodized aluminum finish
  • Built-in percolation system produces water-filtered, cooled smoke
  • Professional capacity, easy-load combustion chamber for longer, multiple brews
  • Easy maintenance and easy to clean
  • Removable glass globes

Stündenglass itself sells for around $600, with the Gravity Beverage Infuser add-on dropping to around $150. The latter arrives in a reusable craft box with a handle, allowing for safe storage and transportation. Wood chips are also available in Apple, Oak, Pecan, and Hickory, priced around $10.

Stündenglass, for those unfamiliar with the company, was “founded in 2012 by self-taught inventor Tracey Huston, Stündenglass offers the most powerful and efficient smoke filtration experience without a battery or motor, by simply using pure fluid physics”.
