HTX Whiskey Inaugural Weekend Opens With Houston-Based Top Chef Competitors

On the last weekend of April, guests can enjoy the inaugural ceremony HTX Whiskey Weekend, a celebration filled with cocktails, food and, of course, whiskey. The weekend begins with The Butcher’s Ball, a dinner presented by a resident chef of City Place and three alumni of Top Chef. Everything happens at town square (formerly Springwoods Village), a resort that borders Lake Plaza Drive just west of I-45 in Spring that’s a hidden oasis of restaurants, business centers, upscale apartments and more . Centerpiece of the district, town square, is anchored by City Place Marriott and home to a few more upscale restaurants, a movie theater, a large leafy courtyard, and almost weekly activities. The latter hosts the weekend’s special event.

The three-day event kicks off on Friday, April 29 with a four-course spring dinner in collaboration with The Butcher’s Ball organization. Featured are three Houston-based Top Chef alumni: Dawn Burrel, sasha grumman and current competitor Evelyne Garcia working in collaboration with Daniel Changwho own sushi rebel at City Place and Downtown Sushi. The Katy-based MKT Distillery organizes the drinks. After the meal, guests will be treated to a DJ, cigar and whiskey tastings. Tickets for the event can be purchased on Boule du Boucher website for an additional $150.

The Saturday, April 30 festivities run for most of the day, starting early in the morning with fitness and yoga classes and ending with live music until 8 p.m. Collecting whiskey 101 and The whiskey business. (A Perfect Class: Whiskey Cocktail Class hosted by Patrick Abalosformerly of Night Moves, is already sold out.)

There is also an event called A taste of the citywhich is a Separate, paid food and drink experience with vendors, food and whiskey samples from 3-8 p.m. Expect brands such as William Price Distillation, MKT distillation, Austin again, Devil’s River and Rebecca Creek. On the food side, HTX Whiskey Weekend joins forces with Urban Harvest present chefs snacks Ara Malekian of Harlem Road Texas BBQ, Austin Simmons of sorting and Drake Leonards of Eunicein the same way Bryan Caswell and Jason Kerr of Little Kitchen HTX. The event also includes a cash beer, wine and cocktail garden.

Sunday, May 1, it’s a change of pace with an event called Waffles and Roulettes operating from 9 a.m. to noon. HTX Whiskey Weekend works with City Place Plaza’s Star Cinema Grill, and the event features a live DJ, art cars, and food items to purchase a la carte. The event is ticketless and free.

As for prices, sampling tickets cost $45 for whiskey and $35 for food; there is also a combo ticket for $65 per person. There are three hotels available in the City Place area. Marriott Houston City Place Hotel offers an HTX Whiskey Weekend Package, which includes two free drinks and a discounted rate of $209 per night. Other nearby hotels include Search Residence Inn Houstonincluding a Snacks On Us package that includes a $10 snack credit, and the Courtyard Houston at Springwoods Village.
