RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – Starting Friday, a popular whiskey bar in Raleigh will convert to a pop-up community market in order to stay open and serve the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dram & Draft, located at 1 Glenwood Ave., is best known as a whiskey and cocktail bar that serves over 300 whiskeys from around the world and has locations in Raleigh and Greensboro. Starting at 2 p.m., they will become known as the new neighborhood grocery store.
According to a press release, once Governor Roy Cooper ordered restaurant dining rooms and bars to close, the founders knew they had to think of a way to ensure their employees still had jobs and that they could continue to operate in the community.
With this in mind, they came up with the idea of a full service market.
The bar will temporarily become Dram Grog & Grocery and will sell wine, growlers and beer crates, toilet paper and other disposables, minced meat, canned goods, housewares and produce.
The items will come from local and national distributors, the statement said.
In order to operate safely during the pandemic, purchases will be limited to four customers at a time and face masks and disinfectant will be provided at the door.
The statement said Dram Grog & Grocery “will use a minimal markup strategy in pricing all retail items, enough to pay the team and keep the lights on.”
Those aged 65 and over will also be eligible for free shipping within a five mile radius.
The store will be open everyday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
