Woodford Reserve, as part of its ongoing relationship with the annual Kentucky Derby, releases a special bottling each year showcasing the art of horse racing. It’s done it once again for 2022, this time sporting a striking label from artist Jaime Corum.
The new Woodford Reserve 2022 Kentucky Derby Bourbon, according to its creators, this year highlights a Corum piece called “Dreams in Bloom”. Corum, a Kentucky-born equestrian artist known for her stunning horse portraits, features in the artwork “three thoroughbreds racing shoulder to shoulder, surrounded by a spray of bright spring flowers, including the iconic red roses of Derby”.
“The attention to detail in Jaime’s artwork is remarkable – and so lifelike,” Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Chris Morris said in a prepared statement. “This year’s bottle celebrating the 148th Kentucky Derby will make a stunning addition to anyone’s bar.”
Corum spent his formative years riding horses, painting and drawing them in his spare time, and continued to focus on his equine subject after earning his MFA from the University of Kentucky. Each piece of equine art, it has been noted, “begins with the foundation of his understanding of equine conformation and movement and enhances it with the intangible quality of the horse’s character, capturing the essence of each subject. equine”.
“As a born horse lover, the Kentucky Derby has always been a time of great anticipation and excitement for me, and a great source of pride for my home country,” Corum said. “I am honored to help celebrate the 148th running of the Derby with this new work of art for Woodford Reserve.
“To me, blooming dreams symbolizes that greatest moment of the first Saturday in May when the horses are in the home straight of the race. A trio of front-runners broke away from the peloton, and from these three, a winner will emerge. They strive with every nerve in their being to be on top, giving everything they have. At that moment, time stops, the colors intensify, the roar of the crowd subsides until, in a flash, the new champion crosses the wire in front. For this lucky winner, the dream of winning the Kentucky Derby becomes a reality.
Woodford Reserve also announced that it has partnered with retailer Williams Sonoma to help bring a favorite Derby cocktail to parties nationwide. The Woodford Spire was introduced to the runway in 2018, and it now joins the line of co-branded cocktail mixers for sale nationwide that includes Mint Julep and Whiskey Sour. Made with cranberry and lemon, the Woodford Spire is an official cocktail of the Kentucky Derby.
“The Woodford Spire is a staple of any Kentucky Derby celebration, and this year Williams-Sonoma is making it easier than ever to whip up this delicious cocktail,” said Elizabeth McCall, Assistant Master Distiller.
The Woodford Spire 16 fluid ounce bottle will soon be available on WilliamsSonoma.com and at Williams Sonoma retail stores. One-liter Derby bottles of Woodford Reserve Bourbon are on sale in the United States and around the world for a retail price of $49.99. It became available for presale on March 1 on ReserveBar.
